Different roles

Player/Performer-

You will need to have a good understanding of the activity, tactics, skills, positions and techniques to make improvements in your performance.

Regional and local representation status can be achieved through clubs.

Coach-

The individual has an important influence on individuals or groups towards achieving set goals, or behaviour in sport. This person will need to have knowledge of the activity as well as different coaching styles. They will also need to be able to communicate effectively.The responsibility of a performer and all their  tecchniques/

Official-

Someone who controls the activity, interprets the rules, laws or regulations of the activity including  checking the equiptment officials include

  • Referee/ Umpire
  • Judge
  • Marshall/ Steward
  • Scorer/ Timekeeper/ Recorder

Different roles

Organiser-

These individuals will ensure events run smoothly in order to maximise promotion, participation and high quality performance. An organiser will oversee an  event from start to finish. They are responsible from timings, to equiptment and spectator provisions.

Choreographer-

Designing or arranging some sort of staged dance or other performance. Links directly to exploring and communicating ideas, concepts and emotions. They would need to be able to be aware of techniques used to access performance.

Types of Performers;

Professional-

Takes part in their activity for their livelihood. They will get  paid as it is their full time job.

Amateur-

Someone who takes part in their activity as a hobby, with no financial gain, they participate for enjoyment. They usually have a job.

Semi- Pro-

Combination of amateur and professional. They may have a job and get paid to play.

Sponsorship-

Given equiptment, clothing, training, travel expenses and in some cases money for wearing a particular brand. 

Occupations-

That allow time off to train and compete.

Expenses payments- 

These are often more than the athlete paid out to begin with

Scholarships-

Universities and colleges pay tuition fees and living expenses to allow full-time sport to be payed

Different roles

GCSE PE-  Full or short course. Involves practical or theoretical components.

A level-AS and A2 has theoretical and pratical elements. Grades awarded are converted to UCAS point system.

BTEC-Completed in units with more coursework

Sports performance awards-eg- sports leaders award

Proficiency testing- 

Awards schemes set up the national governing bodies
