Satire. the faults of society at the time through infidelity and wit, making fun of those such as Mr Pinchwife as his possesive jelous nature leads to his wife's neglect and infidelity as she is wooed.

Gap between Shakespeare and Mycherly as plays banned at one point. The Country Wife was one of the first plays when they were legitmised during 17th century (play ban lasted 20 odd years.......EVERYTHING FUN WAS BANNED!!!!!!!) [friend states: 'Oliver Cromwell was captain anti-fun']
