Respiration:
All living things need energy from their food for the other
six activities. Most living things use glucose.
Aerobic respiration releases energy from glucose using
oxygen. Anaerobic respiration does not require oxygen.

Sensitivity:
Living things are able to detect changes in their environments.
These changes are called stimuli. They make suitable responses.
Plants respond by growing towards or away from a stimulus. Animals
use their senses to find food, shelter and mates and escape predators.

Growth:
Living things can grow. They need energy from carbohydrate
and protein for growth. Animals get the chemicals they need from their food.
Plants get their carbohydrates by photosynthesis. They need nitrates and sulphates from the soil to make proteins which they need for growth.

Reproduction:
All living things will eventually die. Before they die they must reproduce
themselves. Simple things reproduce asexually, most reproduce sexually.
Animals reproduce using sperms and eggs as do very simple plants.
Flowering plants reproduce with pollen and ova.

Excretion:
The chemical reactions in living things produce poisonous chemicals
which are removed by excretion. We excrete urea, excess water and
salts in our urine. We also excrete carbon dioxide in our breath.

Nutrition:
Animals feed on other animals or plants to get the chemicals they need
for energy, growth, repair and to stay healthy.
Plants are able to make all the chemicals they need from simple chemicals
like carbon dioxide and water using sunlight energy by photosynthesis.
