Materials Requirement Planning (MRP)

• Production planning + inventory control system used manage maufacturing processes.

Steps:

• Master production schedule: Customer orders + forecast demand.
• Bills of materials
• Inventory records
• Purchase orders: What being taught.
• Materials plans: What needs built, what order.
• Works orders.

MRP Terminology

Master Production Schedule (MPS)

• Statement volume + timing end products be made.
• Drives whole operation: What been assembled, manufactured + bought.

Bill of Materials (BOM)

• Definition: Comprehensive list parts, items, assemblies, subassemblies, drawings + other materials required create product.

Bill of Materials (BOM)

• Assemblies, sub-assemblies + quantities
• Inventory, Available, On hand
• Lead time

The MRP Process

• Explode master production schedule (MPS).
• MRP must start top level.
• Identify what parts + assemblies required (Gross Requirements).
• Check availability required parts + assemblies.
• Every part/assembly required, not available (Net Requirements), Identify when work needs started it made available due date (Back Scheduling).
• Generate appropriate works + purchase orders.
• Repeat process next level Bill of Materials.

MRP 2 (Manufacturing Resource Planning)

• MRP 2 method effective planning all resources manufacturing company.
• (Original) MRP concerned primarily planning how much material A,B/C needed produce product Z.
• MRP 2 concerned coordination entire manufacturing process (also including finance).

MRP 2 (Manufactruing Resource Planning) Modules

MRP 2 systems usually modular construction, typically:

• Master production schedule (MPS).
• Item master data (Technical data).
• Bill of materials (BOM) (Technical data).
• Production resources data (Manufacturing Technical data).
