What is emotional development?

• Emotional development is a child's sense of security, their sense of personal identity or self image and their self awareness. 

Why is Emotional development important?

• Because children learn to understand and express their own feelings and to understand other peoples feelings as well.

What is self-esteem?

• self-esteem is when somebody feels good about themselves.

What happens if a child has low self-esteem?

• If a child has low self-esteem they begin to lose confidence and are less likely to think can achieve things.

Emotions can be positive and negative, what is an emotion?

• An emotion is an inner feeling which can sometimes be hard to explain to others.

Why do children often express themselves by tantrums, agression or extreme laughter or crying?

• children tend to express themselves in extreme ways because they find it hard to explain emotions such as; worry, fright, anxiety.

How can parents help children with emotional development?

• help children understand it is OK to show emotions.
• giving children opportunities to express their emotion, e.g. giving a child clay or wood can help a child get rid of aggression they may have.
