Electric curcuits

Current

The current flowing through electrical components in a curcuit is measured in amperes or amp, A using an ammeter connected in series with the compomonents.

Series curcuits
For components connected in series, the current is the same at any point in the curcuit. This means that all the components in a series curcuit have the same current flowing through them.

Parallel curcuits
When components are connected in parallel, the current splits when it gets to a junction in the curcuit. No current is lost at a junction, so the total current into the junction equals the total current out of the junction.

Voltage

The voltage across components in a curcuit is measured in volts using a voltmeter.

A voltmeters are always connected in parallel across components.
In series curcuits the voltage add up to the supply voltage.

In parallel curcuits the voltage supply is the same across all the bulbs. So the voltmeters will read the same value.
