Provision of food in the UK
- We import 44% of our total food consumption
- 95% of our fruit comes from abroad
- half of our vegitables are imported
- 30% of all goods transported by lorries in the UK are for food
Why does the UK import so much of its food
- Population - there are more people so more people need more food
- Climate - we are quite cold so we might need other foods bought in that are seasonal
- Wealth - Britain is quite wealthy so we can afford to bring in different foods
- Tourism - poeple going abroad will have a taste of different foods and want to try it again
- Migration - migrants might bring their cultures and food to Brightain with them
