Responsibilities of a Project Sponsor/ Executive
1. • Primary owner of the project on behalf of the business (should have the relevant level of business authority)
2.Accountable for the investment in the project and the resultant benefit delivery
3.Produces and ‘owns’ the Business Case
4.Obtains approval for expenditure
5.Authorises phase transitions and the key management outputs (PMP)
6.Terminates the project if necessary • Defines the business investment aims
7.Initiates the project and ensures a competent project manager is appointed
8. Agrees the project’s success criteria
9.Supports the project manager during the project lifecycle
10.Monitors project progress and makes control decisions when necessary
11.Monitors the project’s external environment and business risks
12.Keeps executive stakeholders informed and engaged
