Stem Cell Research

Advantages

  • Even at 3 days embryos are considered as living things
  • Will offer a cure for many diseases such as cancer and diabetes
  • Less lab animals and money will be wasted when testing new drugs
  • Offers a treatment to many incurable diseases
  • Diverts resources to treatments that really work
  • Damaged or dead cells can be grown and replaced
  • No waiting lists for organ transplantation
  • Embryos are created purely for research*
  • Damaged cells are identical so there are no problems with rejection

Disadvantages

  • Organisms given stem cell therapy often develop problems
  • A cell at 3 days is not a living thing as it only contains 150 cells
  • Embryonic stem cells are unstable and cause tumours
  • Drugs given to women to stimulate eggs are dangerous
  • It is against certain religions to stop life from developing
  • Embryos are created purely for research*

Evaluation

There are more advantages than disadvantages, so STEM CELL RESEARCH is a good thing.
