Elizabeth I: Rebellion in Ireland 1598-1603
Initially, Elizabeth's rule in Ireland was restricted to the Pale, which was overseen by Old England families. Whilst she outlawed Catholicism. However, Ireland was unwilling to cooperate and there had been outbreaks of rebellion prior to 1598. Hugh O'Neill (Earl of Tyrone) started a serious rebellion which lasted between 1595 & 1603.
