Advantages
- Brings the audience closer to the characters - you can immerse yourself in the story
- The image quality is improved
- Companies make more money as cinema tickets and dvds are more expensive
- It's still a new, different experience for many

Disadvantages
- It costs more to make
- You have to wear glasses to watch the films, which can be annoying, particularly for children and glasses wearers
- Only really a cinema experience - it's not as good watching 3d at home
- Occasionally you can get headaches and eye strains
- The films take longer to make and edit
- Sometimes it is unnecessary and therefore the story can suffer
- Occasionally the quality of the image is hampered, particularly if the 3d effect is applied in post-production
