- Natural Hazard- A naturally occurring process or event which has the potential to cause harm to people or damage to property.
- Chronic Hazard- A hazard that is long-term and persistent e.g. El Nino or global warming.
- Disaster- The realisation of a hazard.
- Risk- The exposure of people to a hazardous event which may present a potential threat to people or their possessions/
- Hydro-meteorological- Natural hazard of atmospheric, hydrological or oceanographic nature e.g. cyclones and droughts.-
- Geophysical- Natural Hazards where the principle agent is geological or geomorphic e.g. landslides, volcanoes.
