      • WW2 gave them new roles and opportunities they wanted more of this
      • Contraceptive pill gave them more freedom.
      • Woman reacted against 1950 ideas of woman as wives and mothers.
      • Woman more educated and wanted to start a career or job.
      • National Organisation of Woman (NOW) started in 1966 by Betty Friedan.
      • Abortion - they believed they had the right to chose whether or not to have a baby.

        • 3. Child care for working parents.
        • 4. Action against male sexism.
      • went on marches and organised petitions, appeals to the supreme court, demonstrations.
      • some believed that not wearing make-up was an act of protest.
      • Others did more harm then good
    • What they achieved ?
      • Equal pay act 1963 for men and woman.
      • Civil rights act 1964 banned discrimination on gender, NOW won lots of court cases.
      • Education Amendment act 1972 - girls could follow same curriculum as boys.
      • Roe vs Wade case 1973, the supreme court ruled that abortion was legal.
