- Electromagnetic Waves
- Uses of electromagnetic waves
- Can be reflected to change their direction, making them ideal for communication.
- Can be produced by oscillations in electrical circuits. when radio waves are absorbed by a conductor they create an alternating current.
- This electric current has same frequency as radio waves and the conductor could be for eg an aerial on a radio.
- They are transmitted easily through the air and they dont cause damage to the human body.
- Microwaves used for cooking, used to cook food and for satellite communications too.
- Radio waves used for communication such as TV and radio.
- Properties of electromagnetic waves
- Electromagnetic waves are transverse waves.
- They can travel through a vacuum.
- They travel at the exact same speed in anvacuum as the speed of light.
- Like always these waves transfer energy from one place to another, they can be reflected and can be refracted.
- Each type of wave in the electromagnetic spectrum has different wave lengths and frequencies.
