  • To what extent did opposition from national minorities lead to the fall of the Provisional Government
    • Reasons for Opposition from National Minorities
      • The Gov. was slow to create assemblies in which minorities could voice their concerns
        • lead to calls for autonomy
      • was encouraged by the success of workers and soldiers in establishing their own committees to demand more rights
    • Actions of National Minorities
      • A central council - Rada - was established in Kiev, Ukraine
      • In Finland, politicians campaigned to dent up their own parliament free from central influence
      • These and other committees started to solve problems like land distribution with the Gov.
    • Reaction of the Provisional Government
      • They did set committees in these areas calling for autonomy
        • They were often in opposition to local councils that were actually trying to solve problems
      • Caused a rise in nationalism, especially in peasant-dominated countries (e.g. Ukraine) as the Gov. didn't solve problems like land distribution
        • allowed left-wing parties to become more established at a local level
