- 1800's
- In the early 1800'sonly about 30 elements were known. scienctists knew they behaved simlary but noticed simarlar properties aswell.
- 1864
- around 50 elements now known. John Newlands spotted a pattern, he noticed the properties repeated themselves after every eigth element. he called this the law of octaves.
- 1869
- demtri mendeleev devised a table that the modern periodic table is based on. he used the patterns to predict the properties of undiscovered elements.
- modern
- the elements are now aranged in order of atomic mass.
