- The river is in the NE of England and its source is in the Pennine Hills.
- It flows roughly east to reach the N sea at Middlesborough
- Landforms of Erosion
- The river flows west to east over relatively flat low-lying land
- Along this stretch of the river are examples of meanders and ox-bow lakes
- Landforms of Deposition
- The waterfall drops 20m and continues through a gorge
- A resistant igneous rock cuts across the valley. Its resistance led to a waterfall
- Underlying rock (limestone) is undercut
- High force, on the River Tees is in the upper course
- Waterfall retreats upstream to form a gorge
