- cixi supported the boxers
- boxers were defeated by international military defence
- cixi disguised herself as a Peasant and fled to Xian
- Impacts -
- the Qing suffered damage to its reputation
- china were forced to pay reperations of $330 million over the next 39 years
- all military fortifications, defences and weapons destroyed
- international forces were placed around Beijing

- new modern schools were set up

- causes -
- weak leader (puyi - 2)
- reforms were too little, too late
- resent over the control of China's railways

- ended 2,200 years of imperial rule
- Sun Yat-sen stepped down and Yuan shikai was presidant
- puyi abdicated in 1912
- established the PRC
- nationalism and republicanism was brought back into china
