    • Bonus army
      • Hoover became even more unpopular as a result of the bonus army
        • This is because Hoover sent the army into the Hooverville armed with tanks, tears gas, bayonets, etc.
          • However, Roosevelt sent his wife into the Hooverville during his campaign, on her own with little or no protection.
      • The bonus army was formed as a result of the great depression
        • In 1932, the bonus army (which was made up of WW1 veterans) marched on Washington, to claim their bonus as a result of the veterans being homeless and or unemployed

      • Hoover became increasingly unpopular with votes
        • Hoover's campaigned under the slogan of 'a chicken in every pot'. Suggesting the Republican party was the poor mans party.

        • Roosevelt campaign pointed out Hoover's Republican campaign as being led by the four horsemen of the apocalypse.
        • The 'New Deal' had different approach to Hoover's rugged individualism
