- CAPTAIN OF THE 1964 TOP OF THE FORM TEAM
- it is a dramatic monologue
- Character/ Persona- a man who has never gotten over the disappointment of growing up
- set in the 60s - references the Beatles, top ten and other music icons

- Character - soldier feeling nostalgic about home/ feeling homesick
- continuing contrast between war and home to evoke sympathy.
- form - 3 stanzas, 3rd stanze has an extra line which suggests progression of nostalgia

- BEFORE YOU WERE MINE
- character - daughter reflecting on the life of her mother and how her mother was before she got pregnant witht the narrator
- maybe looking at her life after her death
- form - 4 stanzas, all in free verse which could reflect how the narrators mother was
- BEACHCOMBER
- character- narrator is talking about a young child who is playing in the beach, also about her life, how she grows up and what advise you would give the little girl etc.

- narrator is seemingly in dialogue with an older person throughout, a person who has physically or mentally become stagnant
- FIRST LOVE
- character- 3rd person narrative, more about the presentation to feelings and thoughts surrounding love
- form- 3 equal stanzas, each 5 lines long
- duffy uses sensory language techniques to describe the heightened state of love
- VALENTINE
- character- a person who is in love, ready o give a valentines gift to their partner
- the poem is trying to show that love/relationships are not all fun and they can also be painful and damaging
- free verse- some stanzas are one line long, reflects the layers of an onion
- THE BIOGRAPHER
- character - 1st person narrative of the biographer
- describes the person behind the biographer that knew nothing about peoples lives, they were not family and friends
- LITANY
- character- 3rd person narrative of duffy
- the poem deals with the falsities of middle class suburban life in the 1960s
- form - 4 stanzas in free verse
- STAFFORD AFTERNOON
- character - reflection of childhood games he/she used to play etc
- duffy emphasises the movement form innocence to experience

- THE CLICHE KID
- character - 1st person narrative,persona is constantly anxious about their haunting past which causes them to be mentally confused.
- presentation of the past in a negative tone
- form- 6 stanzas, shortened length give the impression the memories are short but significant
- SMALL FEMALE SKULL
- character - 1st person narrative, girl massively hungover
- Duffy describes the feelings of drunkenness through imaginary imagery, the poem is aimed to be relateable to how women feel hungover/drunk
- NEVER GO BACK
- character - 2nd person narrative, gives the feeling that she's either talking to herself or talking to the people she knew in the past
- cannot return to the past as people and places change, it evokes images of death, disease and decay
- form - divided into 3 sections which represents different place in the past
- CLOSE
- character- 1st person narrative, hears two voices of children but there isn't one clear voice
- the subject of the poem is knowing one clear voice in order to understand yourself you must be able to listen to your head and heart
- form - 5 stanzas with 5 lines
- MEAN TIME
- charater - 1st persona is in mourning
- based on mourning you lose your love and how regrets seem meaningless when one day you get u and life has passed you by.
- form - 4 short stanzas, reflect how life is short therefore you must seize every opportunity.
