- Requirements of a valid marriage
  - age
  - No close blood relationship
    - The law forbids people who are closely related from marrying each other.
      - This means that a man may not marry such close relatives as his mother, sister or aunt, while a women may not marry her father, brother or uncle
        Held under the MARRIAGE ACT 1949 as amended by the MARRIAGE(PROHIBITED DEGREES OF RELATIONSHIP ACT 1986)
        The main reason for this prohibition is that there is a great risk of genetic malformation in a child born to a close relative.
  - Single
    - The parties must be single, that is not already married to someone else at the time of the marriage
      - if a person goes through a second ceremony of marriage while already married is called a bigamous marriage and might go through prosecution for the crime of bigamy
- Void marriage
  - If any of the three requirements is absent then the "marriage" is not valid. It is a void marriage.
    - Untitled
The 2 parties must be at least 16 years old.
- Anyone below this age that goes through this ceremony is not legally married.
