- differentiation: gradations of poor betw. gender, diff ethnic groups, "racial groups"
- related to ineq. lowest rings of ineq - econ - income & resources, cultural, status you have
- irritated by the homeless? 1)think they should be diff. 2)they caused that 3)made you feel uncomfortable (personal hygiene).
- Accumulation of wealth: so much one can spend - sitting there not doing anything. Econ's - circulation of wealth & investment. Worry about concentration of wealth, lack of econ growth - new jobs = poor stay poor

- Younger children - younger parents - shorter on income life cycle = poorer, & additional child
- 24,000 children die each day due to poverty
- 2.2 bil in world - just above poverty line. Nearly 1/2 (1 bil) live in poverty

- Some estimates: represent 70% of world's poor
- Utilitarian econ. - have baby, not give job - invest more elsewhere! & not productive whilst training = structural issue
- Perform 66% of world's work,produce 50% of food - but earn 10% of income & own 1% of property!!!
- Women's national wages - 17% lower than mens (UNICEF - 'Gender Equality, 2007'
- Natural occupational positions (e.g. mothering) - not paid as highly as other marlet positions = seen as a rational decision
- New jobs - economics - who do we give jobs to? Women that will leave to have babies?
- prejudice ag. women in the labor market - but why do we (W) feel unsettled about idea of house husbands? Cultural issues
- W have to have skills & tools adapted to their countries - Q of facilitating top-down?

- Urban slums (squatters) growing v v quickly. ( poorer used to live in rural areas, people move to cities - must have housing - build it & able to oafford it = no!
- india - soon overcome China in population
- China one-child policy, + = withdrawl of soc secuity. & limited internal mgration of citizens (population controls). but can't keepup w/ housing = inaseq housing.
