    • Verbal
      • An explanation of the task, coach speaks to the performer during the demonstration to highlight the points being made.
        • Creates a mental image for the performer.
        • Highlights specific weaknesses.
        • Beginners may not recognise technical terms.
        • Too much information in one go will make the performer confused
    • Visual
      • Guidance that can be seen, a demonstration of the skills that a performer can see.
        • Creates a mental image for the performer, usually used with verbal guidance.
        • Too much information in the demonstration will make the performer confused
    • Manual
      • Providing physical support, to move a performer or provide confidence when performing a skill.
        • Helps to eliminate danger, minimises risk, builds confidence in cognitive performers, completing sub-routines and achieving success
        • Performer can develop a reliance that can interfere with the feel for the movement, causing bad habits.
        • Reduce fear and anxiety for difficult parts of the routine or movement.
    • Mechanical
      • When there is no transfer. No similarity in muscular function or technical performance.
        • Can be used with all abilities and those recovering from injury
        • It eliminates danger, prevents injury and can be used without direct coach contact.
        • If used too much, performer can develop a dependency on the equipment.
        • Loss of confidence over time as performer cannot complete the skill without it.
