- Feste
- Fools were often employed in the palaces of royalty. They had these names even though they were very witty and intelligent. They not only entertained but commented on contemporary behaviour. An "allowed fool" was allowed to say his thoughts.
- He is employed by Olivia, and was a favourite of her father. He gets on well with Sir Toby.
- Going between Orsino and Olivia, he links the love plot and comic plots of the play. Only Malvolio dislikes him, and Feste takes revenge on the puritanical steward.
