- Health is a state of physical, mental and social well - being, which includes the absence of disease and infirmity
- To be healthy you need to eat nutritious food, so you're not malnourished and have shelter - these things help to maintain health because they help you to avoid disease

- Disease is a condition that impairs the normal functioning of an organism. Diseases can be infectious, non - infectious, acute or chronic
- Infectious Disease
- can be passed between individuals. They're caused by infection with pathogens or parasites
- A pathogen is an organism that can cause disease
- A parasite is an organism that lives on or in another organism and causes damage to that organism Some parasites cause disease so they're also pathogens
- Non Infectious Disease
- Non - Infectious diseases are caused by genetic defects, nutritional deifcienties lifestyle and environmental factors
- Acute and Chronic Diseases
- Diseases can also be classed as acute or chronic
- Acute diseases usually only cause a problem for a short period of tine and the symptoms usually appear rapidly

- Chronic diseases are much more persistent and the symptoms often appear very slowly but get progressivly worse as time goes on
