  • monoclonal antibodies
    • STEP 1 = inject a mouse with an antigen, the mouse then produces lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell) these lymphocytes produce antibodies.
    • STEP 2 = the antibodies produced will NOT divide via mitosis and cancer cells are know to divide quickly. So the antibodies are fused with cancer cells to create hybridoma cells, which are cloned identically to create monoclonal antobodies.
    • USES = in pregnancy tests, monoclonal antibodies attach to HCG hormone. LAb testing to detect pathogens for viruses. for location, such as in cells attaching the monoclonal antibodies to flurescent dyes to detect cnditions.
