- Case Study - 'Strange Situation'
- Ainsworth
- The aim was to see how infants behave under conditions of mild stress and also novelty.
- Stress is caused in the Strange Situation by the presence of a stranger and by seperation from a caregiver. This tests stranger anxiety and seperation anxiety respectively.
- Infants between 9-18 months.
- Validity: The strange Situation aims to measure the attatchmen type of a child - secure, insecure avoidant and so on.
- However, does it really measure this or does it merly measure the quality of a particular relationship?
