    • 1858-France agreed to a war against Austria at Plombieres
    • 1859-France signed to Franco-Piedmontese Treaty with Italy, agreeing to go to war with Austria and then later that year fought against Austria
    • 1860-France secretly signed an armistace with Austria at Villafranca and then signed the Treaty of Vienna allowing Piedmont to annex central Italy in return for Nice and Savoy
    • 1866-France remained neutral in the war with Prussia against Austria and after Prussian victory, Venetia was given to Italy via France in the Treaty of Vienna
    • 1870-Due to the massing of Prussian troops on the French border, French troops left Rome which allowed Italy to enter and annex it
